Casino Proposal

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) have taken actions to modernize their offerings in the gaming industry. As part of this strategy, the OLG is considering the addition of new casino facilities throughout the Province.

On May 17th 2012, the OLG issued a Request for Information (RFI) to solicit input from the private sector regarding their interest in participating in the gaming industry. Within this RFI, North Bay was identified as one of five sites that have been preselected as a potential site for the construction of a future Gaming Facility.

As part of the RFI process, the OLG requested that the City of North Bay express whether or not it would be supportive of the construction of a new Gaming Facility within its jurisdiction. The City of North Bay held a public meeting on Wednesday August 22nd, 2012 to elicit opinions from its residents on the subject.

Following the public meeting, a staff report was prepared summarizing the various considerations. This report is attached below.

After hearing from all parties, Council voted to conditionally support the proposed Gaming Facility.

The OLG is now in the process of determining which private sector organization will advance this initiative. The City of North Bay does not anticipate being a participant in this part of the process.

In May 2016, the City of North Bay initiated two Zoning By-law Amendments to consider adding “Casino/Gaming Facility” at two specific parcels of City-owned lands on Memorial Drive and Pinewood Park Drive. The Reports to Council initiating the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment are posted at the bottom of this page.

The City of North Bay has also received a Zoning By-law Amendment application requesting the addition of “Casino/Gaming Facility” for a privately owned property on Pinewood Park Drive.
