Cedar Heights Sanitary Sewer, Watermain & Standpipe
To be Determined
Estimated Construction Cost:
$6,485,685.00 (HST not included)
This project involves the installation of 370m of sanitary sewer and 1,430m of watermain North of Cedar Heights Road and a 4,100 m3 standpipe
In 2008 the City initiated a study to evaluate water and wastewater servicing requirements for the Cedar Heights planning area including fire protection and supply to both Nipissing University and Canadore College. A Schedule B, Municipal Class Environmental assessment identified the preferred strategy for developing the Cedar Heights Area and in 2015 the lower pumping station was constructed to provide servicing for the College and University. In 2017 the City received both provincial and federal funding to partially complete the preferred strategy for providing servicing to the Cedar Heights Area.
Currently, the only municipal water and wastewater service to the area is to the Canadore College and Nipissing University campuses. However, there have been a number of water supply interruptions to the area caused by pump failures and power outages resulting in the issuance of temporary “Do Not Drink the Water Advisories”. The issues concerning the reliability of the existing water supply and the forecasted population growth in the area generated a need to extend the water servicing to Cedar Heights.
Estimated Work Schedule:
The construction tender for the Cedar Heights Sanitary Sewer, Watermain and Standpipe is anticipated to be issued in August 2017 with completion estimated for July 2018.
Estimated Traffic Delays:
During construction, access to Larocque Road north of Cedar Heights Road will be maintained by a single lane for use by residents living in the construction limits.
Estimated Project Completion:
Sanitary sewer and Watermain construction is estimated to be completed by December 2017 with the commissioning of the water standpipe in July 2018.
