Strategic Framework Public Consultation Launch
Mayor Al McDonald, City of North Bay
Strategic Framework News Conference
~ Friday, October 28, 2016 ~ 10:00 A.M. ~
Good morning everyone. Thank you for joining us this morning for this announcement.
In September 2015, Council started working on the strategic framework for the City. We held five planning sessions in January. And, in May, we unveiled our draft ten-year strategic framework. That framework suggested a common vision and a future path forward.
For a few, the words “strategic planning” may sound unimportant or non-engaging, but it is an extremely important process for any organization. It is the process of defining the direction forward; determining the future of the organization; and, in this case, the community. It also allows us to make decisions on where to allocate resources and take action in order to pursue that strategy.
The future vision of the community is very important to our residents, a key theme that came out of our planning was the need to be united not only as a Council, but also as a community.
That is why we committed to having the framework go out for public consultation … so that our community could help us build upon this framework toward our final Community Strategic Plan.
I am pleased today to announce that Council will be starting public consultation on our strategic framework next week.
There will be 10 community Town Hall sessions scheduled between November 2 and November 16, during the day, in the evening and on the weekend to allow everyone in our community to have the ability to participate in this process.
We will be launching a community survey to assist us with this process and provide another opportunity to gather public input.
Residents, businesses, community organizations and City staff … we want everyone to be engaged. Your thoughts about where we are as a City and how we can make it better for tomorrow are very important.
All the feedback that we receive will result in a vision, set of goals and concrete actions that directly reflect the values of our community in the form of a Community Strategic Plan.
I would encourage and invite every member of the community to work with us in developing this strategy that will move us forward, bring focus to vision and unite the community, as we work together to establish an even greater North Bay.
Please take a moment to complete the survey, or attend one of the public consultation sessions. Together we can shape the vision of North Bay for 2026 and beyond!
