Make It Stop

Sometimes smoke from a toaster, an open oven door or even steam from a shower can cause a smoke alarm to activate. This is referred to as a nuisance alarm.

Did you know....The risk of dying from fires in homes without smoke alarms is twice as high as in homes that have working smoke alarms? Daylight Savings time is this Sunday. Change your fire and carbon monoxide alarm batteries at the same time you change your clocks ahead. These alarms save lives.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms Saving Lives in North Bay

A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm is to thank for saving the lives of a North Bay Family earlier this month. Firefighters arrived to find the family waiting outside, already feeling the effects of CO poisoning.

Candle Fire Could Have Been Disastrous

A local family is very fortunate that they obeyed an important pillar candle decorated with and containing coffee beans was lit. The coffee beans then ignited and the wax collapsed pouring over the glass candle holder and onto the counter.

Unapproved Vent-Free Fireplaces Sold in Ontario

Recently the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) became aware of unapproved vent-free fireplaces manufactured by ProCom that were being sold at local Liquidation World stores. These heating appliances, which are typically fuelled by natural gas, operate without a chimney, flue or vent.

Practise Home Fire Escape Planning on Family Day

Fire Chief Grant Love is urging families in North Bay to practise their home fire escape plan as part of Family Day on February 15, 2010. Last year, 101 people died in fires across the province, a stark reminder that everyone in your household must know exactly what to do if a fire occurs.
