Artist Submission and FAQ's
If you would like to participate in the Canada Day Concert Series, artist submissions are being accepted via this website from now until May 14, 2018. Please complete the artist submission form below. A committee will review the submissions and prepare the line-up. The line-up will be made public on or about June 1, 2018.
Do we get paid? Yes, you will receive an honorarium. You will be paid $100 per on-stage performer to a maximum of $500. You will be paid by cheque from the City of North Bay.
What gear is provided? A PA system and backline are provided for the July 1 event only. This includes a standard five-piece drum kit, 2 guitar amplifiers, and 1 bass rig. Mic’s and monitors are also provided. All Wednesday shows require the act to provide their own PA system.
What PA do I require for the Wednesday shows? You must provide all the gear required for the Wednesday night shows. For these shows, you will be paid $200 extra for supplying a PA system and sound technician. All instruments must go through the PA system (amps, full drum kit, bass rig etc). We want a quality event. Assume you may have 1000 people in attendance.
Am I the only act on stage? July 1 is a multi-act day with a particular headline act. All Wednesday night shows are a one-act, no intermission show.
What if it rains? If the weather is uncooperative, we will try to reschedule to another date. If you have arrived and set up, and the event is cancelled due to weather, you will be paid 100%. If the event is cancelled on the show date, and there is no reschedule option, you will be paid 50%. If you can re-schedule to an alternate date, you will be paid the 100% on that date.
What is the production schedule? You will get a unique schedule for the July 1 gig. For the Wednesday gigs, you can load in at 4:30pm and prepare for your show. Wednesday shows should start at about 7pm and run until about 9pm with no intermission. We need a minimum of 90 minutes of entertainment.
Will you consider touring acts from outside the area for the shows? Our goal is to use acts with all of their members based in the Nipissing area.
How do you select the acts? We have an inventory of 30+ acts from the region from previous events. There is no shortage of acts. We only have 6 dates so a selection process must occur. The artist submission form indicates to us who is interested / available for these gigs. Our committee then looks for show-ready acts. We try to produce an entertainment line-up that suits our demographic. Our main demographic is aged 35 plus. We prefer acts that are a proven commodity rather than a “one-off” event.
Can I do a Karaoke show? No. Our preference is full live entertainment.
What is the busker stage program? The busker stage is a performing area architecturally designed into the waterfront. The stage is located at the pedestrian underpass going from the Discovery museum to Memorial drive. We will have solo musicians playing here from 1-4 on July 1. A small PA is provided. You will be paid $100 for your performance.
How can I help? You can help by promoting the concerts through your social media connections (like and share are best). Organizers will create digital posters and provide online reviews of the shows.
