June building permits valued at $22-million

NORTH BAY, ON – July 13, 2016 – Eighty-two building permits valued at $22,099,945 were issued in June 2016 in the City of North Bay, bringing the City’s year-to-date total to
$52.3-million.

In particular the City is seeing strong numbers in institutional, industrial and commercial building values; year-to-date these values are up almost 50 percent from the same time last year.  In June alone, 15 permits were issued for institutional, industrial and commercial building valued at $18,121,315.  Two permits were for projects valued at more than $1-million.

“We continue to see a steady increase in non-residential building permits, which shows robust construction activity and that is a great sign for our community,” said Mayor Al McDonald.  “It’s great to see these numbers in the first half of the year; it brings optimism that permits will remain strong for the second half.”

One of the areas the City continues to monitor is residential building permits for single-family and multi-family dwellings, down from the same time last year.

“While our residential building permits are down a bit from last year this is in line with the trend being seen across the province,” said McDonald.  “We remain optimistic that these values will continue to increase.”

A City building permit is required to build, demolish or renovate a dwelling.  The City’s building statistics provide a record of all the permits issued during a period of time for residential, industrial, commercial and institutional construction in North Bay.
