North Bay Transit launches enhancements to improve rider experience

North Bay, ON – September 29, 2016 – Pretty soon riders won’t have to wonder: Where’s my bus? Now there’s a website for that.

Earlier today North Bay Transit unveiled improvements to its fleet that will optimize the rider experience.  One of the most significant enhancements is the launch of My Ride NBT, a new real-time website that helps riders learn the arrival and departure times of their bus.

“This is a key component of ensuring quality services for our riders,” said Remi Renaud, Manager, North Bay Transit.  “It really makes the experience of riding a bus better. It will minimize the amount of time riders have to wait at the bus stop, and give them confidence that the bus will arrive.”

My Ride NBT includes real-time GPS data from all transit buses. The website adapts to most screen sizes and can be used on smartphones, tablets and desktop computers.  Some key features of the website include the ability to pinpoint when your next bus will arrive, locate where the bus is along the route, and even receive push notifications about service disruptions and route changes.

“We wanted to adapt to meet the needs of all our riders,” said Councillor Mark King, chair of the City’s Community Services Committee.  “With the system we now have in place we can continue to evolve and enhance the services we can provide residents through this website.”

In addition to the website, the City has introduced an audible stop announcement system that makes audible messages inside and outside the bus, as well as visual messages inside the bus.

“This is an important step in making our buses more accessible,” said Councillor King.  “The investments that we are making in our buses broaden the accessibility of our public transportation system in North Bay.”

At every bus stop riders waiting to board will hear an audible message announcing the route name.  Inside the bus, riders will hear the next approaching bus stop and will see the stop name displayed.

“The visual and audible announcements will help passengers identify upcoming bus stop locations and ensure they arrive at their anticipated destination,” explained Renaud.

The audible announcement system has already been rolled-out to every bus in the City’s fleet.  The My Ride NBT website can be viewed at northbay.ca/myridenbt
