Second phase of work on Lakeshore Drive overpass will begin in January 2017
North Bay, ON – November 21, 2016 – Starting in early 2017, the City of North Bay will begin the next phase of rehabilitation to the Lakeshore Drive overpass.
The bridge, which spans over the Ontario Northland Railway and Ottawa Valley Railway lines between McIntyre Street and Judge Avenue, will undergo a complete deck replacement.
The anticipated completion date of the project is October 2017. Throughout this phase of rehabilitation, one side of the bridge will remain open allowing one lane of traffic to operate in each direction, while the other side of the bridge is under construction.
The $7 million Lakeshore Drive Overpass Deck Replacement and Substructure Rehabilitation Project includes both surface and substructure work involving the replacement of the bridge deck and asphalt surface and major repairs to the underside of the overpass. The City received $3 million towards the multi-year project from the federal and provincial governments through the Small Communities Fund.
The overpass was constructed in 1967 and has undergone several rehabilitation repairs since. The completion of this project is anticipated to extend more than 50 years to the life expectancy of the bridge.
