Pearce Street Rehabilitation Project – Phase 2

Bruman Construction Inc.

Award Amount:

$1,785,859.50 (HST not included)

Project Description:

This project involves the reconstruction of Pearce Street from Francis Avenue to Canterbury Crescent. The scope of work for this phase includes road works to the road base aggregates, asphalt, curb, gutter and grass-boulevard. Additionally, a sidewalk is to be installed which will tie into the new sidewalk on Greenhill Avenue and the sidewalk from the first phase. Underground work includes a new watermain and repairs to the sanitary and storm sewer systems.

Project History:

Pearce Street was originally constructed as a local, semi-urban street with ditches. Over the years, the section between Airport Road and Greenhill Avenue has evolved into a collector route with significant traffic volumes. The purpose of the Pearce Street project is to upgrade the road to a collector standard and install a trunk watermain. Phase 1 was completed in 2012 which included the reconstruction of the intersection at Airport Road with the addition of traffic signals and a new intersection leg to Bain Drive. The remaining construction for this project is set to be completed in Phase 2.

Project Need:

The City of North Bay's Official Plan provides policies which encourage the provision of a high quality transportation network in the City that is capable of supporting current and future traffic volumes. This section of Pearce Street is at the end of its useful life and requires reconstruction. Additionally, the new trunk watermain will provide redundancy in the water system which acts as a safeguard to providing consistent water distribution.

Work Schedule:

The Contractor will mobilize on site late July to setup traffic control, erosion control and begin their removals operation. The sanitary and storm systems are scheduled for rehabilitation in August while the construction of the watermain is scheduled for September. The installation of curb, sidewalk, and asphalt paving is scheduled for October. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-November 2017.

Traffic Delays:

Pearce Street will be closed to through traffic between Francis Avenue and Canterbury Crescent. Local traffic will be permitted to access homes during construction.

Project Completion:

4 months
