Beyond Dying

St Joseph Motherhouse, 2025 Main St W
Topic: Role of a Death Doula
Presenter: Jana Brogan, end-of-life care specialist
Death is a natural and inevitable part of life yet it is something western culture has forgotten how to do. Showing up, bring present and holding space with death is not easy but it is worthwhile. This is something that used to happen at the community level as well as within the family. An important aspect of being a Death Doula is reintroducing this concept to modern society and helping people reconnect to a natural innate process, empowering those actively dying and the people who love them.

Jana Brogan is a Death Doula certified in Contemplative End of Life Care. She recieved her certification through the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto where she is also studying Therapeutic Clinical Herbal Medicine.

About the “Beyond Dying” series, part of the Seniors Connections project
Palliative care goes beyond comfort while dying. Knowing more about this multi-faceted topic helps us care for our loved ones, deal with changes in our own health, and serve our community through organizations like the Near North Palliative Care Network. Please join us for this excellent learning opportunity!
This lunch-and-learn series runs every 1st and 3rd Thursday and is open to everyone, though geared towards seniors and those who work in palliative care (professional or volunteer). Presentations start at 11 a.m. followed by Q&A, lunch and social time.
