Outdoor Skating Rinks
Outdoor rinks provide a valuable leisure experience in your own neighbourhood. The City of North Bay operates a total of 11 rinks in the City. Some are supervised by caretakers hired by the City. Others are operated by volunteers.

Rink caretakers are hired at five locations and are on duty for approximately 8 -10 weeks (weather dependant) beginning in the first week of January after New Years. (Call Parks and Recreation Department for start date) The caretakers at these locations open the building for public use on a regular weekly schedule during the season. At these locations, a schedule will be posted showing public skating and hockey shinny times.
Caretakers are available at Caldwell Ellam, Kerr Park, Greenhill Playground, Circle Lake Playground, Police Playground according to the following schedule:

- NEIGHBOURHOOD TIME IS NOT SUPERVISED BY CITY STAFF, RINK WILL BE OPEN (LIGHTS TURN OFF AUTOMATICALLY AT 11 pm)
- THE BUILDING WILL BE CLOSED UNLESS A NEIGHBOURHOOD VOLUNTEER IS ON SITE SUPERVISING THE FACILITIES
- Use during Neighbourhood time will be determined by the neighbourhood group and or users.
- If there is no permit scheduled during the designated time period, it will be scheduled as shinny hockey.
- Permitted Rinks ONLY Caldwell/Ellam, Kerr Park
- Permits holders are required to shovel the ice surface during the last 10 minutes of their permit.
- Other users during the Neighborhood and City Supervised time are encouraged to assist with shoveling the ice.
How to volunteer at an Outdoor Rink location
For those who are interested in volunteering at one of our 11 outdoor rinks, an information package is available at the Parks and Recreation Department. This package outlines how the volunteer based program works, fundraising options, City support services, volunteer training and responsibilities. Each person who volunteers must complete a volunteer form and are also required to provide a criminal reference check. Please contact the Department at 474-0400 ext 2329 for more information.
With volunteers and proper weather conditions, a rink could be operating in your neighbourhood before Christmas.

Take your team to an outdoor rink
The City of North Bay, Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services Department is booking outdoor rink ice time at Caldwell Ellam (Laurentian) Playground located on Montrose, Kerr Park located on Riverbend Road. The ice time will be rented to local hockey and ringette teams at a rate of $24.60/ hour + HST.
Wednesday to Sunday: 6:00pm- 7:00pm
