Accessibility Committee to mark Deafblind Awareness Month

The City’s Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) will mark National Deafblind Awareness month on Thursday, June 6th.

 

The event will begin at City Hall at the front doors at 1 p.m., with the MAAC providing wheelchairs and blindfolds to members of Council to experience the transit system.

 

Then, agencies and members of the public are invited to join in the celebration at 2 p.m. at Lee park with a flag raising, followed by refreshments and a light snack. The transit bus will be available from 2:05-2:45 for an ‘open-house’ to experience the transit services.

 

North Bay is proud to be working towards being completely barrier free, our transit fleet has incorporated many features, including:

 

  • Passenger side kneeling feature;
  • Folding wheelchair ramp;
  • Equipped to secure to wheelchair passengers;
  • Automatic audio stop announcements;
  • Automatic visual stop announcements;
  • Live GPS tracking;
  • Soft touch panic alarm;
  • Video surveillance system with audio recording; and
  • Two-way radio communication
