Country's Here on Saturday Night
Canadian Country Music Awards & Juno winner, Dean Brody headlines Summer in the Park on Saturday, August 4!!
“Dean Brody will ‘Bring Down the House’ on August 4th. It doesn’t matter if you’re form the country or the city this Canadian Country Music Award winner will have country fans stomping their feet at the Gardens.” said festival co-chair Geoff Richardson.
Born in Jaffray, B.C., Brody has achieved country-music-superstar status with an impressive list of accolades to his name including 16 CCMA and 2 Junos under his studded belt. Brody recently took home the coveted Fan’s Choice Award, Songwriter of the Year and the award for Top-Selling Single of the Year,“Bush Party”, at the 2017 CCMA Awards.
His sixth album, Beautiful Freakshow, continues to be a fan favorite and keeps the faithful wondering what’s coming next. The 26 city, cross-country, Beautiful Freakshow Tour featuring James Barker Band, High Valley and Madeline Merlo had an incredibly successful run.
The new album is a fascinating mashup of Brody’s broad range of musical preferences. From “Beautiful Freakshow”, featuring a rap contribution by Halifax native, Shevy Price, to the pop- meets-country vibe of “Bush Party” (the #1 Most Added Single at the time of release), to the touching reggae song,“Beautiful Girl” with echoes of traditional country, to the dynamic Sarah Blackwood duet, “Little Blue Volkswagen”, to the foot-stomping, country kickin “Soggy Bottom Summer” featuring Alan Doyle.
“Man, there’s truly something for everyone on this record, and absolutely something for everyone at the concert,” said Richardson, “you don’t wanna miss this one”.
Brody worked on Beautiful Freakshow in Nashville alongside long-time producer and friend Matt Rovey. Their working relationship was recently documented in Dean Brody & The Making of Beautiful Freakshow a documentary focused on Brody’s compelling songwriting capabilities.
Brody took a series of worthwhile risks with “Bring Down the House,” which reached gold after only eight weeks on the charts, rang in at number one on the Country Music Television charts and earned the title and award for number-one-selling digital Canadian country single of all- time.
Brody had first set out to work with a Nashville-based music publisher in 2004, after landing a 2- year deal. When it didn’t work out, he headed back to Canada, taking shifts at the a sawmill until a call from Matt Rovey offering a deal from Broken Bow Records, this resulted in his self-titled album in 2008. His single “Brothers” made a massive impact, landing in the U.S. top 30, Canadian top 10, and earning him the 2009 CCMA award for Single of the Year. He also receiving an official certificate of appreciation from the U.S. Army for “Brothers” contribution to the Armed Forces.
“What a way to wind up Summer in the Park. A Saturday night of concerts on the civic long weekend in August headlined by a bonafide country music icon”, added Richardson.
