Pump Up The Pop - Scott Helman Opening For DNCE
Scott Helman will bring a little extra heat to North Bay on Friday, August 3rd when he opens for headliner DNCE at Summer in the Park!
You don’t want to miss this!!!
This Canadian singer-songwriter released his debut, full-length album, ‘Hôtel de Ville’, in May, 2017. Helman is influenced by album-focused artists like Arcade Fire, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, The Cure, Bon Iver and Paul Simon.
Helman recorded ‘Hôtel de Ville’ in Toronto at Revolution Recording and was produced by Tawgs Salter (Lights, Walk Off The Earth, USS). The album's second charting single “PDA” follows the Top 5 radio success of the album’s debut single, “Kinda Complicated”.
Scott was recently nominated for the prestigious Songwriter of the Year category for the songs “PDA,” “21 Days,” and “It’s Kinda Complicated.” The album Hôtel de Ville, was nominated for Pop Album of the Year. These are Scott’s third and fourth JUNO Award nominations.
Additionally, Thomas “Tawgs” Salter has been nominated for the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year award for his work on Scott’s current single “PDA.”
Helman explains, ”The more that I write music the more that I feel that I'm curing myself. How am I gonna be a better person and how am I gonna be a better lover? I have to figure out all those things that are knocking around in my head.”
Helman released “Bungalow" in 2014, the first single from his debut EP ‘Augusta’, introducing a fresh new voice to the musical landscape leading to tours across Canada, playing with Tegan and Sara, Shawn Mendes and Matthew Good. "Bungalow" has been certified platinum in Canada.
Opening for Walk Off The Earth on tours of the U.S. and Europe, Helman stood alone on stage night after night, winning over skeptical audiences to build an international fan base. In 2016, he topped the Teen Vogue list of voices to look out for over the likes of Melanie Martinez and Elle King. By the time Helman went back into the studio for ‘Hotel de Ville’ he had been nominated for multiple MuchMusic Video Awards and 2016 Juno awards, performing to massive TV audiences on both award shows.
Helman rang in 2017 with a raucous tribute to Leonard Cohen, performing "Bird On A Wire", in Cohen's hometown of Montreal for 50,000 people and live broadcast on CBC TV.
Helman was a 2 time nominee for the 2016 Juno Awards: "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" and "Pop Album of the Year”, 50,000 Nielsen BDS Certified spins of "Bungalow" in December 2015, Spotify emerging artist of 2015 and “Bungalow" certified gold digital download in Canada - July 2015.
