Rock removal to result in traffic delays

North Bay, ON – Oct. 4, 2019 – The contractor for the Hwy 11/17 and Seymour Street Intersection Reconstruction project has encountered additional rock while installing storm sewer that will require rock blasting/hammering on both the northbound and southbound lanes. As a result of this necessary operation, lengthy delays to traffic travelling through the intersection may be experienced due to reduced travelling lanes starting Monday Oct. 7, 2019. To minimize the disruption to traffic, blasting/hammering has been scheduled to occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. with the intersection operating normally outside of those hours. The contractor anticipates the work requiring reduced lanes for rock blasting/hammering will extend to Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 but will reassess at the end of the week.

During this period travellers should add extra time to their schedule when using this intersection or take an alternate route as follows:

  • vehicles travelling northbound on King’s Hwy No 17, detour onto Hwy 94 towards Callander and then north to Lakeshore Road and then using the City’s road network, get to their destination; or
  •
  • vehicles travelling northbound on King’s Hwy No. 11, should take the off ramp at Lakeshore Road and then using the City’s road network, get to their destination
  •
  • vehicles travelling southbound should take any of the arterial roads connected to Hwy 11/17 and using the City’s road network make their way to either King’s Hwy No. 11 or King’s Hwy No. 17

The City of North Bay, MTO and Contractor are aware of and appreciate the need to maintain traffic through the Hwy 11/17 and Seymour Street corridors but the necessary work must be completed responsibly and safely at all times.
