Speed limit reduced for section of Pinewood Park Drive

North Bay, ON – Dec. 3, 2019 – The speed limit will be reduced on a section of Pinewood Park Drive, between Lakeshore Drive and just south of Decaire Road.

The reduction, to 60 kilometres per hour, was approved by North Bay City Council Tuesday. It will apply to a section of Pinewood Park Drive from Lakeshore Drive to a point 370 meters south of Decaire Road. The Existing speed limit within that section of the roadway is 70 km/h. The change is expected to take effect in mid-January.

Pinewood Park Drive is expected to continue to experience increased commercial development that will change the nature of the driving experience through the corridor. The reduction in the speed limit to 60 km/h was recommended by the traffic engineering consultant who completed a traffic study for the nearby casino development.

The recommendation is consistent with the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Guidelines. The City’s engineering staff also reviewed and confirmed that the recommendation is consistent and aligned with the TAC Guidelines. A lower speed limit will improve traffic safety and benefit the design characteristics for a new left turn lane that will be constructed near the entrance to the casino development.
