COVID-19 Update

North Bay, ON – March 13, 2020 – The City of North Bay is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit continues to advise that the risk to individuals for COVID-19 remains low.

No municipal facilities have been closed at this time, although, in light of the province-wide closure of public schools, all public skating and shinny hockey has been cancelled until further notice.

We have also decided, out of an abundance of caution, to cancel an open house planned for March 18 related to future plans for Bourke Park and to hold an online forum in its place. Additional details will be posted to the City’s website and shared through social media.

Likewise, a regular meeting of Council scheduled for March 24 will be cancelled, as the agenda would have included only a few non-time sensitive items. Those items will be moved to the April 7 meeting.

The City will be re-evaluating the situation on an ongoing basis.

We are working closely with the Health Unit and other community partners to prepare and respond should the risk increase.  We will continue to share regular updates to keep residents informed on any changes to municipal programs and services.

What the City is Doing:

  • City staff is continuing to ensure increased sanitizing practices on all common touchpoints and public spaces at City facilities and buses.
  • Signage focusing on hand-washing and cough etiquette has also been placed in high-traffic locations.
  • Recommending to staff proper hand washing protocols and to stay home if they feel ill.
  • Emergency preparedness plans have been reviewed.
  • Working with the health officials and providers to assess and understand impact and potential actions that may be required to maintain critical infrastructure and essential services.
